Two boxers from Birmingham Fed affiliated boxing clubs will be representing Great Britian at the 2008 Olympic Games in Bejjing this summer:
Khalid Yafai, 19, is a former Birmingham Fed and NACYP Boxing Champion, who has come through the ranks at Birmingham City Amateur Boxing club, run by Frank O'Sullivan. Khalid, who in 2003 was Britains youngest ever world cadet champion, will represent Great Britain in the Flyweight category.
Frankie Gavin, also a former Birmingham and NACYP Champion, hails from Tom Chaney's Hall Green Boxing Amateur Club and earlier this year in Chicago was crowned Britian's first-ever World ABA Champion. Frankie will fight for Great Britian at Lightweight and is a hot favourite to win Britains first Olympic Boxing Gold since Audley Harrison back in Sydney 2000.
We wish both fighters a huge amount of luck as they go on to represent Great Britain and also the city of Birmingham this summer. |
