CENTRAL ENGLAND 5-A-SIDE FINALS

Saturday 14th April 2007, JJB Soccerdome, Pride Park, Derby

In the Under 12s age group, Sutton Town made a slow start losing 2-0 to Positive Futures (Warks) and 5-0 to Aylestone (Leics). However, they re-grouped and bounced back in style, smashing Clough Hall (Staffs) 7-0, before beating NSA (Derby) 5-2. Sutton went into their final game knowing a win would take them through to the semifinals and a likely chance of a place at the Nationals. Unfortunately, they were just edged out in a close game by Evergreen (Leics).

Well Done to the Sutton lads for an outstanding effort and some great football.

In the Under 14s age group, Lift Community Trust won their first game 3-1 against Meadows but then suffered a 2-0 reverse at the hands of Maldon Town. They were then unlucky to lose to Positive Futures (Coventry) before finishing their day with another 3-1 victory, this time over Tower FC.

A great effort from the Lift team and just 1 more point would have sent them through to the semi-finals.

In the Under 16s age group, Four Oaks warmed up with a 2-2 draw against East Harlan (Lincs) before smashing 5 past Chesterton (Staffs) in a 5-1 demolition. They then eased to a 4-1 victory over Hannakins (Essex) and a 4-2 win over Positive Futures (Coventry) to secure their semi-final place with a game to spare. They then took their foot off the pedal, losing their final group game to Watford (that must be Watfords first win of the season!) . In the semi-finals they faced East Harlan and in a close game where the East Harlan keeper was outstanding, they lost 2-1. With three teams going through to the National finals, this left them needing to win their 3rd place game against Positive Futures. Having already beaten them 4-2 in the group stage, they were confident but Four Oaks somehow contrived to lose 2-0.

Well Done to the Four Oaks lads for some excellent football, just a shame they ran out of steam at the end.

In the Under 19s age group, Bangladeshi Youth Forum drew their first game 3-3 with St Giles FC before beating Wakkies 1-0. That was to prove the high point though as they then lost 4-0 to monty Hind and 2-0 to Wickford Town.

Well done to the lads from BYF for their effort and a great team spirit.
