BIRMINGHAM FED POOL & SNOOKER TOURNAMENT 2007:

Saturday 10th March 2007 at West Bromwich Young Peoples Club

Overall 62 young people took part in the Pool and Snooker event. Many thanks to the following clubs who brought young people along; West Bromwich Young Peoples Club, Bangladeshi Youth Forum, Frankley Youth Centre, Cherry Orchard Young Peoples Club.

SNOOKER:

The Snooker event was a closely fought contest throughout, resulting in a final between .......................... report to follow shortly

POOL:

The Pool competitions were in 3 age groups; under 14, 16 and 19. Each category had group stages, with group winners and runners-up going through to the knockout stages, culminating in a final, with the winner and runner-up in each age group then eligible to represent Birmingham in the Central England Finals.

The Under 14 Pool final was between Abdul Hussain and Rajib Hanris, both from Bangladeshi Youth Forum. In a one-sided final Abdul powered his way to victory to take the trophy and title of Birmingham U14 Champion.

The Under 16 Pool final was betweeen Jamie Paskin of West Bromwich Young Peoples Club and Abdul Ahab of Bangladeshi Youth Forum. In a close match that could have gone either way, Abdul triumphed over Jamie.

The Under 19 Pool final was between Faizal Ahmed of Bangladeshi Youth Forum and Nathan Wenlock of West Bromwich Young Peoples Club. In another tight game , Faizal scraped to victory to complete a clean sweep of Boys wins for BYF.

The Under 19 Girls winner was Charlotte Moore of Cherry Orchard, who, due to a lack of girls entries, also took part in the boys competition and beat several of the lads on her way to the semi-finals.

CENTRAL ENGLAND POOL FINALS

22nd April 2007, Riley Snooker Centre, Northants

Young People from across Central England gathered for the Pool Championships. Unfortunately due to other committments and travel issues, only two of the Birmingham finalists were able to take part.

In the Under 19 boys category, Nathan Wenlock of West Bromwich Boys Club represented Birmingham Fed. At the group stage, he was involved in a series of close games before eventually being faced with a play-off to decide if he would go through to the knockout stage. Unfortunately, Nathan lost a close match and was left to rue what might have been.

In the Under 16 Boys category, Jamie Paskin of West Bromwich Young Peoples Club represented Birmingham Fed. He put in a series of strong performances to fly through the group stage and all the way to the Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, he had his first poor game in the semi-final and was left facing a third-place play-off game that he had to win to go through to the National Finals as one of the top three. Jamie rose to the occassion and produced an outstanding performance to blow away his opponent and breeze through to victory. Congratulations and Good Luck to Jamie, who will now be our sole representative at the National Finals in Coventry next month.
