On Sunday 5th April 2009, 5 youngsters from Birmingham went to Northampton to play in the CYP Regional Pool Finals. In the Under 14 category, Jack Nicholls got through to the knockout stages
In the Under 16 category, Andrew Evans got knocked out in the group stages, but Adam Witehouse qualified through to the knockout round.
In the Under 19 category, both Birmingham players got through to the knockout stages. In the quarter-finals, Pete Haddock got through to a deciding frame where he was snookered on the black. He produced an astounding shot off 3 cushions to pot the black and go through - truly shot of the day!
The most successful of Birmingham's representatives, however, was Michael Jones, who was the only one to qualify for the National Finals in Barnsley on May 10th. Best of luck to Michael as he carries the hopes of Birmingham and West Brom on his shoulders!
Also, a massive thanks to Derek Harrington MBE for all the support and assistance he gives to the young people. Without him, they would have had none of these opportunities.
